Dear Ancestors 2030 2021
Audio sci-fi play, 30 min.

A sci-fi audio series in five acts takes the audience into the near future, specifically to the year 2030. Through recordings of phone calls, we learn about the existence of a new entity that has organically evolved from human digital data. This entity is not artificial intelligence in the traditional sense but rather a form of collective human knowledge. Knowing that humanity is likely to be extinct by the year 2200, the entity decides to contact its ‚ancestors‘ and offers anyone who speaks English and owns a cell phone a five-minute phone call. During the call, the entity borrows the voice of the person with whom the respondent has had the greatest number of phone calls in the past. Each call provides a different perspective on humanity‘s impending demise and reflects the personal stories of the individual characters.

Linda, a conservative mother, believes it to be the activation of microchips from vaccinations and tries to buy time. Senior citizen Peter has learned English solely to ‚speak‘ with his deceased wife again. Awamil, a 25-year-old young man, thinks he is attending a job interview, while non-binary Alex uses the phone call as an opportunity to analyze personal relationships. Rachelle, a scientist, is the only person to welcome the call, fascinated by the existence of such an entity and eager to understand it better.
